Yuzi Sun

Drum

"I speak Chinese, I speak English. And I'm  trying to speak Jazz."

Yuzi Sun is a Toronto-based drummer and educator with a deep passion for both performance and teaching. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from Western University and an Advanced Diploma in Applied Music (Drums and Percussion) from Mohawk College. She is currently advancing her jazz training at the University of Toronto.

 

With experience across genres-Jazz, Rock, Pop, and Musical Theatre, Yuzi brings versatility and depth to her teaching. Her strong foundation in jazz performance, combined with a thoughtful and student-centered teaching style, enables her to craft personalized lesson plans that strike a balance between technique, creativity, and musical expression.

 

Yuzi’s approach is holistic: she emphasizes critical listening, musical interaction, and collaboration, helping students grow not only as drummers but also as well-rounded musicians. Whether students are taking their first lesson or preparing for the stage, Yuzi is committed to helping them find their voice on the drums and in music.

Harry Tsai is a professional guitarist and educator with over 20 years of performance and teaching experience. He has worked with students of all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced players, tailoring lessons to meet each individual’s goals.

His teaching covers a wide range of styles, from pop, folk, rock, metal, blues, and funk, to Japanese anime music and K-pop. Known for his approachable and inspiring teaching style, Harry helps students quickly build skills while keeping lessons fun and engaging. Many students praise his method as “making learning guitar simple and enjoyable.”

Harry’s lessons are designed to be flexible and student-centered—whether you want to play your favorite songs, master soloing, develop songwriting skills, or even start a band, he provides the tools and guidance to help you succeed.

Chi-Tou Lao

Piano

Pianist whose artistry blends the German musical tradition with award-winning performances.

Chi-Tou Lao is currently a second-year Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) student in Piano Performance at Western University, studying with Dr. Kyung Kim. He previously earned his Master of Music at the Peabody Conservatory, where he worked with Professors Yoshikazu Nagai and HieYon Choi. During his time at Peabody, Lao focused primarily on German composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, and Schumann, reflecting his deep interest in the German musical tradition. As an aspiring musician, he strives to discover and refine his own artistic voice.

 

Lao has participated in several competitions and received various awards, in January 2020, he won first prize in the Collegiate Division of the New Albany Symphony Concerto Competition, which led to a performance in a subscription concert of the orchestra in March 2020. Lao also won first prize in the Collegiate Solo Division of the OMTA Graves Piano Competition in Columbus, Ohio (2020). Most recently, he was awarded first prize in the 3rd Paul Badura-Skoda International Piano Competition (2025).

 

Throughout his years of study, Lao has participated in numerous masterclasses with artists such as Dang Thai Son, Richard Goode, Steven Osbourne, Stanislav Khristenko, Misha Dichter, Alan Chow, Kuok-Wai Lio, Michael Chertock, Jeffrey Cohen, Laura Melton, and the Balourdet Quartet.

Thea Xijia Zhang is a professional soprano singer known for her versatile performances and expressive vocal artistry. 

 

She holds a Master of Music in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Studies at the University of Toronto, under the guidance of Prof. Lorna MacDonald.

 

Thea has performed notable roles such as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro(Francesco Square, Italy, 2024), Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen (ADES Performance Space, 2021), andSister #7 in Seven Sisters (Miller Recital Hall, 2022)

John Cao

John Cao specializes in integrating professional recording studio experience into vocal training, helping students discover and enhance their unique vocal potential.

In his early career, he worked as a Vocal Director in professional studios, gaining extensive industry insight and hands-on experience. This background allows him to guide singers from a producer’s perspective, teaching them how to apply vocal techniques to deliver more expressive performances. 

John has many years of teaching experience. He has served as the head vocal coach at MIXX SOUND ACADEMY and holds the Voice Technique and Musicianship Professional Certificate from Berklee College of Music. This unique background enables his teaching to combine the rigor of academic training with the practicality of industry expertise.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced singer, John provides personalized guidance with his professional knowledge and rich experience, helping students steadily progress and find their own voice in music.

Arios Su

Piano, Saxophone

Pianist, educator, and composer whose work spans performance, teaching, and award-winning music for film and animation.

Arios Su is a versatile pianist, educator, and music & sound designer. He has studied in the Bachelor of Music (BMus) and Bachelor of Education (BEd) programs at Queen’s University.

He has guided students of all ages and skill levels, fostering both technical development and a love for music. His teaching emphasizes individualized lesson planning, student creativity, and confidence-building through performance opportunities.

Beyond teaching, Arios is active as a composer and sound designer for animation. Since 2023, he has collaborated with creative teams to produce original music and soundtracks, with his works featured at international festivals including the Urbanite Arts & Film Festival, the Annual Oakville Film Festival, and the Hudson Animation & Short Film Festival (2025).

As a performer, Arios is proficient in piano, tenor saxophone, and clarinet, with repertoire spanning classical and modern works. He was awarded the Steinway Piano Concert Award (2018) in recognition of his outstanding artistry. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Arios brings patience, adaptability, and a student-centered approach to his teaching, inspiring students to grow as musicians and creative individuals.

Kenny Cheng

Pianist and music educator, experienced in teaching piano, voice, guitar, and saxophone with a student-centered approach

Kenny Cheng is a pianist and music educator based in Toronto, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music (Comprehensive) at the University of Toronto. With teaching experience at music schools and as a private tutor, he has worked with students in piano, voice, guitar, and saxophone, tailoring lessons to their goals and learning styles.

In addition to teaching, Kenny is active as a performer and band leader, having organized and led music gigs across Toronto. Fluent in both Mandarin and English, he combines patience, adaptability, and creativity in his teaching, guiding students to grow in technique, confidence, and musical expression.
